Spotlight on: Harrison Hayward-Gore

This week, we’re introducing you to the younger members of our team who play a huge role in the company. As promised, second in our ‘spotlight on’ series, is Harrison.

Harrison describes himself as the ‘head-nerd’ at TouchByte.

Essentially, he’s responsible for the tech-side of the facial recognition solutions we create. He’s the guy who takes Jeremy’s (our MD) crazy ideas and turns them into a reality. Not only a reality, but a market-ready product which is installed into various locations and actually… works. I think it’s magic.

I met Harrison in 2019 while I was an intern at TouchByte, and was instantly blown away by his knowledge on the world of biometrics and all things facial recognition. He frequently spends his time with me, talking through the technical side of algorithms, or component intricacies, attempting to explain things to me in as human way as possible for my marketing brain to understand.

“Without Harrison, TouchByte wouldn’t be complete. His expertise, can-do attitude and willingness to always think bigger is incredibly refreshing and vital to this company. He’s also incredibly patient - especially when he’s trying to dumb down facial recognition for me, which is a considerably difficult task.”

Harrison joined TouchByte in 2015 as an intern, much like me. He was half way through his Computer Science degree at Plymouth University, and showed great potential within his field. During the following five years, he has worked his way up through the company, and is now a department head, managing a team of developers and external contractors. He’s currently taking the lead on a number of our commercial opportunities, and is thriving under the pressure. Even if he won’t admit it himself.

He spends a great deal of time writing code, tweaking it until it’s a fully-functioning algorithm, and then fixing the bugs that the algorithm inevitably creates for itself. His patience and adaptability for the technology he works with on a daily basis is admirable. Writing code is essentially learning a new language. He’s fluent.

Harrison is quite possibly the most dynamic person I have ever met, and have the pleasure of working with on a day-to-day basis. He’s half tech-nerd, half LARP-nerd. Larping, for those of you who aren’t aware, is ‘Live Action Role Playing’; he most certainly makes us chuckle in the office when we need a laugh or two with his various character impersonations and alter-egos.

Jeremy says: “I envision a very bright future for Harrison and am excited to see him grow not only as an individual, but also as a leader of the next generation of cool nerds, Larping, and of course, his two chinchillas.”
