TouchByte’s WHY.

We spend a lot of time talking about how clever facial recognition technology is. We rave about Cognitec’s algorithms, which we use for both our software and hardware solutions. In March this year, a new algorithm was released which identifies masked faces with impressively high accuracy. We were beyond thrilled – it was the talk of the office.

Biometric technology is so incredibly powerful and technologically intricate, that we feel we ought to spend a lot of time explaining how it works. Most likely because we’re tech nerds who revel in all-things biometrics. But you, our clients, partners and end users, probably don’t care about algorithms, coding and AI.

Instead, following the wise words of Simon Sinek, we’re going to start talking about the why; why we believe in the power of AI and biometrics. And not just because of its clever features. Why it has the potential to make significant, positive change to the world around us. Why it has the potential to change the world.

In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, construction sites were forced to close due to outdated technologies - using pen and paper to log who’s who on a site, recording relevant health and safety accreditations and clocking in and out. Many workers were left without an income, unsure of when their sector would open back up again.

Care homes across the UK saw exponential rises in cases of coronavirus - partly due to homes using keypads, codes and cards to grant access to workers and patients, enabling covid to spread between patients and their families. This had a knock-on impact to our loved ones living in these care facilities.

The education sector was forced online - lessons, lectures and seminars all converting to online teaching. Teachers and students collaborating in online spaces; but what technology was in place to ensure that the student is talking to the correct member of staff? What technology was available to safeguard students across the globe?

Yes, we believe in our technology for its fancy features. Algorithms, code and what-not.

But we also believe in our technology for the positive change it can make to the world around us. For its ability to protectstreamline and safeguard.

With TouchByte’s Facentry technology, construction sites across the UK were able to reopen by using contactless access control, meaning hundreds of workers could return to work. Our software solution, SecureCall, also meant that construction professionals could complete online Health and Safety courses, verifying that the individual taking the course was exactly who they said they were.

Care homes using TouchByte’s Facentry technology can now operate in a completely contactless manner. Guests, staff and carers can access rooms without touching anything, therefore creating a far safer environment for vulnerable family members.

TouchByte developed SecureCall during the pandemic, designed specifically for Microsoft Teams, meaning that both students and staff are verified during a call, adding an additional layer of security to the online learning environment.

The what is really important to us here at TouchByte. But the why is what gets us out of bed every morning.
